Job Overview
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To provide interventions to students who are identified as exhibiting behavioral difficulties which impede their social and academic development as well as provide student, family, and instructional personnel with appropriate programs for students with behavior challenges.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND PREREQUISITES:
Bachelor’s degree or higher from a recognized, accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certification in special education, grades PK-12 preferred
EXPERIENCE:
At least one year of experience working in Special Education
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the necessary functions of the position while acquiring the specialized training to manage aggressive and non-compliant behavior.
Experience implementing behavior management strategies.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AN DUTIES:
- Under the supervision of the Director of Special Education, collaborate with classroom teachers to assess student skill areas and behavior challenges.
- Provide Positive Behavior Intervention System initiatives
- Responsible for taking the lead role in students’ Behavioral Intervention
- Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.
- Compile, maintain and file all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the area of special education.
- Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.
- Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment.
- Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors. Effectively communicate with colleagues, students and parents.
- Maintain emotional control under stress. Moderate lifting and carrying of students. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities.
