Job Description:

Learning Initiatives and Student Success seeks an Adjunct Counselor for WCC’s grant with Mercy College, STEM Ready, funded by the U.S. Department of Education Hispanic-Serving Institutions STEM program. This position uses high-impact advising practices and tools from WCC’s Viking ROADS program and reports to the Viking ROADS Director. The Adjunct Counselor will deliver comprehensive advisement through completion to STEM students in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Mathematics and Psychology who demonstrate a strong early interest in STEM disciplines and in transferring to Mercy College to pursue those STEM majors. The Adjunct Counselor will also collaborate with WCC STEM Read faculty lead on program activities, data reporting, event planning, and coordination with Mercy staff and faculty. This part-time grant-funded position is contingent upon the availability of funds.

 

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The minimum requirements include a Master’s degree in Guidance Counseling or a related field (No MSW or LCSW); and at least 1 year of professional experience. Effective oral and written communication skills are required. The successful candidate will be able to relate well with students and colleagues, have strong project management and facilitation skills, and possess a deep desire to help students succeed. The successful candidate must also possess knowledge of college courses & programs, and counseling techniques. All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working with students from disadvantaged backgrounds, familiarity with STEM careers and delivering comprehensive case management advising preferred. Familiarity with Microsoft Teams also preferred.

Additional Information:

WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule is 24 hours per week.

POSITION EFFECTIVE: The position will remain open until filled.

HOURLY RATE OF PAY: $45.32 per hour. No benefits. This position is fully grant funded.
