Job Summary

A Behavior Technician works 1:1 or in small groups with children ranging in age from early childhood to adolescence, to help them with behavioral challenges. If you enjoy working with children, consider becoming a Behavior Technician at Touchstone.

The Behavior Technician is trained in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), a scientific approach of behavior therapy, to treat a variety of diagnoses, including autism spectrum disorder. Daily duties include working with children, helping them to learn simple everyday activities.

Each child (client) has a treatment plan, developed by a Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA), that addresses areas for improvement such as communication, social skills and different behaviors. The Behavior Technician works under the supervision of the LBA, collecting and tracking data about the client’s behavior which guides the decisions about progress and future treatment.

Behavior Technicians are provided with training and incentives to become a Registered Behavior Technician in a short period of time.

Responsibilities and Duties

A Behavior Technician will be expected to: a) read a program sheet that provides instructions, b) record data, c) graph data, d) keep the work area clean and e) being comfortable supervised by an LBA (Licensed Behavior Analyst) & their peers. Duties also include working with children on a daily basis and attending staff meeting.

Qualifications and Skills

An applicant is required to have at least a high school degree/GED. A college degree is highly preferred, but not necessary and does not have to be in a specific field of interest. Applicants also must be able to pass a federal background check and be 18 years or older.

Please note for this position, an employee hired as a Behavior Technician is expected to go through a training period with the goal of becoming a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) and CABAS® TA (Teaching Assistant). The on-site and online training provided by Touchstone, prepares line technicians to take the RBT exam, a national certification for employees that provide ABA services as well as achieve a CABAS® TA Rank.
