Overview:

Key member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, providing clinical interventions to include assessment, group threrapy, treatment and discharge planning for psychiatric patients. Responsible for facilitating and coordinating appropriate and efficient use of hospital resources by utilization review activities including, but not limited to, prior authorization, concurrent review, retrospective review and/or quality assurance operation

Qualifications:

Masters degree in Counseling, Social Work or Psychology. 3 years experience relevant to specific program needs and patient populations, prefer experience in psychiatric inpatient acute care setting. Current license or registration by appropriate State of New Mexico licensing board must be obtained in 12 months from date of hire.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs counseling and case management for each patient assigned, including, assessment, diagnosis, planning care, intervention (including counseling patients/significant others, facilitating brief psychotherapy and educational groupd, planning discharge), evaluation (including identifying unmet or new therapy services)
  • Demonstrates the therapeutic core conditions of genuineness, empathy and postive regard when interacting with patients and significant others, according to generally accepted counselling practice.
  • Performs discharge planning functions for each patient assigned to include follow-up appointments, family meetings, post discharge phone calls, and documentation. Participates in treatment planning meeting with multi-disciplinary team and is responsible for adherence to treatment plan initiatives. Acts a primary therapist for each patient assigned. Provides supportive interaction with patients and families throughout the admission. Complete Psycho-social assessment on each patient assigned.
  • Performs risk management documentation and follow-up actions required for patient complaints and/or adverse events.
  • Responsible for utilization management functions, to include prior and concurrent authorization for inpatient services, managing the appeals process for denied services.
  • Participates in the Internal Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process, such as peer review, audits, Joint Commission survey preparation, and implementations of clinical paths.
  • Keeps an accurate, complete and current status of documentation onto the patients chart.
  • Conveys professional role model example for other staff through quality of own clinical practice, work habits, availing self to others as a consultant on clinical issues, attending ongoing internal and external professional development events.
  • Performs other functions as required.
