The position of Clinical Intake Specialist will administer intake for JFS programs, ensuring that clients are connected to the areas of service appropriate for their needs. This role includes managing the counseling wait list, offering appropriate and up to date referrals, and offering groups and individual therapy services to a range of demographic and service needs.

Essential functions:

  • Intake and Referral – Conduct intake and assessment for JFS programs, including wait list management and urgent or walk-in support. Provides additional social services to clients as needed, such as service linkage, referral, and collaboration with other providers. Manage agency’s therapy referral network by maintaining working knowledge of and regular contact with current resources in the Greater Austin area. When clients need services that JFS is unable to provide, provide referrals that have been researched and confirm to be available.
  • Counseling – Perform on-site and/or remote telehealth clinical counseling services to Jewish Family Service clients, in accordance with agency policies. Clinical responsibilities include assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and treatment implementation as appropriate. Service demographics include children, adults, couples, and families. Interventions may include individual and group therapy, case management, and crisis intervention. Maintain appropriate caseload, balancing the needs of new clients and longer-term clients, and meet with clients routinely to review progress and accountability.
  • Collaboration – Partners closely with fellow clinical staff and all Shalom Austin staff to serve the needs of clients and community. Attends mandatory staff meetings, trainings, biweekly clinical supervision and offers coverage when needed.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping – Maintains professional and timely documentation of services in electronic medical record including, but not limited to intake notes, progress notes, treatment plans, termination notes, contract notes, and other forms or documents which may be needed or required from time-to-time. Tracks and uses program-related data to enhance service effectiveness.
  • Community Outreach and Education – Collaborate with other institutions and professionals in the Jewish community, and in the Austin mental health and social services network. Engages in ongoing outreach and community engagement through development and implementation of psychoeducation programs, community events, collaboration, and networking.

Competency: Comfort and experience with intake and assessment, clinical interviewing, therapeutic counseling, and case management for clients in-person and online. Working knowledge of Greater Austin mental health and social service resources and referrals. Adheres to legal and ethical standards of care, including scope of practice, client privacy and record-keeping, HIPAA, and cultural competency.
Supervisory responsibilities: No direct reports; interested and qualified therapists may have opportunities to clinically supervise graduate student interns or associate-level clinicians.
Work environment: Perform in-office and/or remote telehealth social services, in accordance with agency policies. For those working remotely, a private space is necessary to maintain client confidentiality.
Physical demands: Must be able to meet routine office physical demands including climbing stairs, carrying up to 20-pound objects and possessing the dexterity and vision to operate office computers and equipment.
Position type and expected hours of work: Full time Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, attend occasional organization events and programs occur on evenings and weekends, as requested. No overtime offered.
Travel: Some travel to the office or JCC campus may be necessary, if working remotely
Required education and experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Graduated from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling or related human service field.
  • Licensure to practice in good standing in the State of Texas (LMSW, LCSW, LPC-Associate, LPC, LMFT-Associate, LMFT)
  • Experience intake screening and assessment
  • Experience counseling children, adults, couples, and families with a variety of mental health needs in individual and group settings

Preferred education and experience:

  • Additional training, licensure, or certification related to the treatment of individuals, couples, and/or families is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of community resources

Additional eligibility qualifications:

  • Excellent time management and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort working both independently and with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Comfort and competency in coaching and counseling virtually
  • Cultural competence with Judaism or Jewish culture is preferred
  • Remarkable professional references.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • We’ll pay you a salary of $45,000/year, depending on experience and education.
  • We will give you lots of paid time off. First-year employees receive: 9 days of paid time off, and more than 15 Jewish and Federal holidays.
