Job Overview

Responsible for providing guidance, supervision, and direct support to individuals to help them maintain their mental health. Also accountable for creating a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment in which patients can be treated.

Duties;

  • Preparing diagnosis and assessments of mental and emotional disorders.
  • Working with other staff in assessing and evaluating a patient’s mental state.
  • Conducting individual, couple, and group counselling sessions.
  • Assessing whether a patient represents a risk to themselves or others.
  • Observing and recording a patient’s behavior.
  • Building relationships with patients to gain their trust.
  • Working with patients’ families and careers.
  • Providing supportive care to patients.
  • Visiting them in their homes should they need assistance in any capacity.
  • Taking a patient’s vital signs and weight, and recording the results in patient charts.
  • Assisting with the delivery of direct care.
  • Liaising with doctors, social workers and other professionals.
  • Conducting admission assessment interviews with patients.
  • Assisting patient’s in feeding, bathing, toileting, dressing, etc.
  • Recognizing potential behavioral problems.
  • Documenting information in medical records.
  • Interacting with people who are under physical or emotional stress.
  • Participating in putting together treatment plans.
  • Encouraging patient responsibility in a social and recreational environment.
  • Involved in the discharge and transfer of patients.
  • Conducting psycho-educational groups.
  • Visiting patients in their home to monitor their progress.

Perform comprehensive Psychiatric and / or chemical dependency assessments, crisis intervention, professional advice and assistance with disposition of a psychiatric or CD problem or situation, which may or may not include admission to any DBHS program.

Help patients and families adjust to hospital admissions explaining emotional/ social responses to illness and treatment. Conduct crisis safety plans for patients referred to outpatient level of care and coordinate discharge plans from the assessment and referral center.

Provide service to a variety of customer groups , including but not limited to : Physicians, allied health professional, hospital emergency department, convenience care center, other health care provides, schools, social services and mental health agencies, police, courts, employers and the public at large.

KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Counselling

  • Knowledge and understanding of mental disorders.
  • Ability to relate to a culturally diverse clientele.
  • Ability to participate in the physical management and restraint of patients.
  • Report preparation and case documentation.
  • Knowledge of codes and regulations governing mental health and substance abuse.
  • Can work in a multi-disciplinary setting.

Personal

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and work habits.
  • Excellent teamwork skills.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract

Pay: $30.00 – $60.00 per hour
