GENERAL SUMMARYProvides ancillary service to the Emergency and Psychiatry Departments in the evaluation of patients who present to the ED with behavioral health complaints which may or may not require hospitalization. Provides expeditious patient assessments and collaborates with medical providers in determining the appropriate disposition and treatment for behavioral health and other vulnerable patients in the emergency department to ensure safe treatment, discharge and transition plan. Serves as a resource to patients’ families and the community.

While functioning in ED or inpatient behavioral health, staff is responsible for patient care, displaying skills in assessment, treatment planning, individual, group, and family counseling for the behavioral health service. Additionally, he/she is expected to function as a member of the multidisciplinary team and participate in the unit community relations program.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Licensure as an LICSW, LGSW, LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor), or LGPC (Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor) in the District of Columbia. Graduate of an accredited program for social work services, counseling, or equivalent.
  • Master’s Degree in relevant field (Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Mental Health, Nursing, etc.)
  • At least two to three years of psychiatric social work or counseling experience with a focus in adult/ geriatric crisis management and treatment of complex psychiatric populations and vulnerable patients
  • Current CPR Certification required.
