Job Overview

INTRODUCTION: Under general direction of the Disability/Mental Health Manager, using complex analytical judgment, coordinates and implements all activities of the Disabilities and Mental Health components providing opportunities for children with special needs to become effective members of their families and communities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with the disability effort which includes recruitment, enrollment, screenings and coordination of specialized services.
  • Collaborate with Disability/Mental Health Manager to ensure completion of developmental screenings, follow-up, documentation of child records, according to state, federal, and Head Start Program Performance Standards.
  • Assist in the coordination of assessments and screening of all children to identify those that require special services. 4. Process and provide follow-up on referrals, to included collecting supporting paperwork
  • Respond to identified needs and goals within the organization (Head Start and Early Head Start) and intervene on behalf of families, children and staff, provide expertise and support in developing high quality childhood environments, materials and practices, and early childhood special education services.
  • Assist with supporting classroom monitoring through site visits, classroom observations, review of electronic records, and work groups.
  • Help assess classroom needs and assists with planning strategies for system/process improvement and/or development in the areas of early childhood education, disabilities, and mental health.
  • Assist assistance to address children’s challenging behaviors and sensory needs.
  • Works cooperatively with other agencies to meet the needs of families and children served:
  • Coordinate and monitor child and/or family referrals to early childhood special education
  • or mental health services.
  • Provide support services and/or coordination of children’s transition plans (internal transitions, EHS to
  • HS, and transition to kindergarten).
  • Schedule and coordinate early childhood mental health classroom visits.
  • Participate in meetings as requested.
  • Make certain all special services and mental health records are accurate and ensure confidentiality.
  • Assist with advocating for disability and mental health services.
  • Ensuring all paperwork is complete and accurate
  • Such other duties as are assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of an associate degree in education, child development, mental health, or related field.
  • Minimum one year clerical support experience in office environment with related
  • Strong organization and time management skills, ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Occasional driving to monitor and support sites and staff.
  • Working knowledge of local community resources
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Knowledge of knowing you will have to obtain a RBT certification.
