The Family Counselor is a critical member of the Youth Services team, providing follow-up crisis stabilization services and short-term counseling and case management services to older youth and their families. The goal of the Youth Services program is to preserve and reunify families, to prevent placement of youth in the state child welfare or juvenile justice system, and to prepare older youth for successful independent living. As a Family Counselor, you will meet with clients and families in their homes and other community-based locations, providing individualized services aimed at strengthening relationships, addressing trauma, and building positive community connections.

Staff are be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and to submit proof of their vaccination status before their start date unless they have an agency approved medical or religious exemption. Staff with an exemption will need to provide proof of weekly testing.

What you’ll do:

  • Meet with youth and young adults (11-23 years) and families in their homes, providing trauma-informed counseling and case management focused on individualized, collaboratively developed treatment goals.
  • Provide crisis intervention to support families in identifying immediate solutions to circumstances that involve youth runaway, lockout, or risk of homelessness.
  • Coordinate services with other relevant providers and develop appropriate referral plans.
  • Complete thorough and timely documentation, including assessment and service notes, using a web-based client services platform.
  • Provide after-hours support to remote field staff on an on-call basis.

Who you are:

  • You have at least a Master’s Degree in Social Work or a related field, OR a Bachelor’s degree in a human services field plus at least two years’ related experience working with children and families.
  • You are able to meet with families in their homes, and you have a valid driver’s license, insurance, and a reliable vehicle.
  • You are an intuitive, nonjudgmental listener who easily builds relationships built on respect, trust and positive regard.
  • You have a warm, effective communication style, both verbally and in your written communication.
  • You are detail-driven and enjoy working autonomously but are also excited by big-picture outcomes and working with a team to reach shared goals.
  • You are looking for reflective, clinical supervision and opportunities for growth and training in your field.

The details:

  • Location: Hybrid. Family Counselors provide in-home and community-based services, in person, in Madison County, St. Clair County, and surrounding Southern Illinois counties, and have the opportunity to complete case documentation and other tasks away from the office/at home, if desired.
  • Schedule: Full-time, salaried; general business hours with flexibility for evening appointments to accommodate clients’ schedules. Position requires participation in after-hours on-call crisis rotation.
  • Salary: Range starts at $41,000, offers are commensurate with experience
