Position Information
- PhD in Psychology or LMSW or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Licensed practitioner.
- Minimum of one year providing therapy to adult students in a higher education environment applying knowledge and evidence-based practices.
- Crisis intervention and management experience, including wellness check protocol.
- Experience in and commitment to supporting adult students both individually and in group settings to process issues and effects of racism, sexism, homophobia and other issues of inequality.
- Skilled in building collegial relationships with the ability to work collaboratively with other mental health practitioners both internal and external to the medical school.
- Must possess the ability to maintain the strictest standards of confidentiality as defined and maintained by the Oakland University Counseling Center.
- Understanding of the importance of ethical standards with the ability to set and maintain strong, healthy boundaries with students, staff and faculty.
- Desire to develop as a therapist under the direction of the OU Counseling Center Director while reporting to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs to provide wellness and wellbeing programming to the OUWB student population as a whole.
- Must be available to work some evening hours to accommodate student schedules (a minimum of one evening per week.)* Occasionally, evening and weekend hours will be required for participation in special events.
- Desire and ability to develop and execute wellness and wellbeing programming specific to medical students’ emotional health needs.
- Must possess:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills;
- Ability to communicate effectively with others;
- Ability to work as a member of multiple teams to collaborate, coordinate, cofacilitate;
- Flexibility in meeting with students while setting clear boundaries as appropriate;
- Ability to provide person-centered care and meet client where they are;
- Willingness to learn about the medical school system and systemic problems within the medical field, especially social justice topics of race and gender discrimination and intersectionality;
- Willingness to learn about OUWB culture;
- Desire and knowledge to make appropriate community referrals.
- Previous work experience in a medical education setting with medical students and/or physicians.
- Significant experience addressing anxiety and depression with a population of young adults.
