Job Overview

Please note that pursuant to Department of Labor policy and practice, employees are required to complete a certification of Vaccination Form that attests to the employee being vaccinated against Covid-19 OR the employee will be required to provide proof of having received a negative FDA-approved Covid-19 test taken sometime within the previous 3 days (72 hours) of arriving for work on the Job Corps federal facility (this is a reoccurring requirement).

DESI works with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Job Corps Program, as well as Outreach and Admissions and Career Transitions (OACTS) along with local workforce development agencies administering the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA), to provide opportunities for success.

We are currently seeking a Clinical/Counseling Psychologist or Clinical Social Worker to partner with us as a Mental Health Consultant at the Dayton Job Corps Center in Dayton, OH. The successful applicant will commit to 40-hours a week and will have the responsibility under the Center Directors’ guidance to implement programs outlined within the Center requirements, and may have to delegate, by written and dated standing orders, any of his her responsibilities set forth by the contract to appropriately qualified staff.

Mental Health Consultant Responsibilities:

  • The development, implementation, and monitoring of the total mental health program.
  • Provide mental health services/consultation/training.
  • Advise the Center Director and Wellness Manager on all mental health matters.
  • Staff development/training using mental health principles and techniques will include coping with substance Misuse, sexuality, aggressive behavior, and poor communication.
  • Consultation on developing a system to promote the mental health program’s coordination and integration with other center programs and activities, such as counseling, residential life, and recreation.
  • Consultation with center health staff, career counselors, residential counselors, instructors, and other appropriate staff concerning the ongoing mental health problems of students.
  • Assistance with program development to meet the crises of students in constructive ways.

Direct services to students at the center

Insurance of the maintenance, confidentiality, and safeguarding of all necessary mental health records.

  • Diagnostic and evaluation services to students who are inpatients or outpatients
  • Insurance of the maintenance, confidentiality, and safeguarding of all necessary mental health records
  • Limited forms of psychiatric treatment, including crisis intervention, brief psychotherapy, and intermittent supportive psychotherapy, psychotropic drug management, and group psychotherapy, as permitted by licensure or accreditation
  • Appropriate referral for student employees who must be terminated for mental health reasons
  • Advice and assistance to health education instructors in the implementation of the health education program
  • Overall center program consultation to the Center Director and administrative staff regularly
  • In the event of an absence, provide replacement coverage by a licensed consultant

Mental Health Consultant Requirements:

  • The Mental Health Consultant must be licensed, insured. and indemnified.
  • All research projects and/or publications related to Job Corps health activities will first be cleared through the Job Corps National Health Staff, Washington D.C.
  • Any information concerning Job Corps enrollees or Job Corps activities must be treated as privileged and confidential and shall not be made public regarding such information without the prior written approval of HSC/DESI.
  • Services to be provided will not be limited to those Mental Health services specified in the Job Corps Policy and Requirements Handbook (PRH) and other Job Corps health directives.
  • The Mental Health Consultant will need to provide their own vehicle, possess a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance.
  • The Mental Health Consultant must pass a background check and a drug screen.
  • Must possess an active, unrestricted license to practice as an independent practitioner in Dayton, OH, where the center is located.
  • Must be a Clinical/Counseling Psychologist or Clinical Social Worker.
