New Directions, under the supervision of Knutson Counseling and Seminars, is seeking full-time Mental Health Practitioners, Workers, and Certified Peer Support Specialists to work with adults with mental health disabilities. Hours are flexible, but generally Monday-Friday 8-5. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, have a valid drivers license & insured vehicle, and pass a background check. Excellent computer skills, verbal & written communication, and knowledge of mental health rehabilitation techniques are a must.

Mental Health Practitioners must have an associate of arts degree, two years of full-time postsecondary education, or a total of 15 semester hours or 23 quarter hours in behavioral sciences or related fields; is a registered nurse, or within the previous 10 years has one of the following:

  • Three years personal life experience with serious and persistent mental illness
  • Three years personal life experience as primary caregiver to an adult with a serious mental illness, traumatic brain injury, substance use disorder, or developmental disability or
  • 2000 hours supervised paid work experience in the delivery of mental health services to adults with a serious mental illness or brain injury

Individuals who do not fully meet these requirement, may apply as a Mental Health Worker. MHW’s receive direct on-site observation until the above qualifications for Practitioner are met.

Certified Peer Support Specialist must have successfully completed the DHS-approved Certified Peer Specialist training, passed the certification exam, and have experienced mental health stability for a period of two or more years.
