Job Overview

I am currently seeking a Mental Health Counselor for my growing practice. It is a contract position so you will make your own schedule in accordance with the demands of the caseload provided. Under my direct supervision you will assess, diagnose and treat mental illness and psychological distress within your scope of practice. You will be required to provide counseling services in several different areas including premarital counseling, relationship counseling, child counseling and separation and divorce counseling, as well as possible court mandated counseling. If called you may also be required to testify truthfully in court based on the facts of a specific case in question.

Job Duties:

  • Diagnosing and treating mental disorders
  • Conducting psychotherapy with individuals, couples and families
  • Developing treatment plans
  • Helping clients develop new interpersonal communication skills
  • Collecting information about clients through self-report inventories, interviews, observations, discussions and formal assessments.
  • Completing paperwork correctly within the time allotted as well as maintain accurate case progress notes, keep a record of evaluations, and note any recommendations for further treatment.
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality and ensure HIPAA compliance at all times.

Job Requirements:

  • Must have a Master’s degree in a Mental Health related field (Clinical Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family, or Psychology).
  • At least two years of experience in working with children and their families. Experience in Early Childhood may have been acquired prior to receiving Master’s Degree.
  • Familiar with Medicaid Requirements.
  • Therapists must be willing to work in Volusia and Flagler Counties.
  • Therapists must be willing to work in the natural environments, such as in home, school, daycare, etc., although access to office is provided if necessary.
  • Bi-lingual or Licensed therapists will be a definite plus but not required.
  • Flexibility to work around client’s schedule.
  • Must be willing to travel to homes and schools (Around East/West Volusia and Flagler County)
  • Must be willing to see ALL clients assigned regardless of age and race

Job Skills:

  • Interpersonal skills: Compassion and empathy are vital.
  • Problem-solving abilities: The aptitude to deal with complex problems and come up with effective solutions.
  • Organizational skills: Ability to keep track of case notes and other paperwork and manage billing and insurance claims without being prompted. Must be extremely self-motivated.
  • Communication skills: Collaboration with others including family members and health care professionals is vital and listening skills are paramount.
  • Comfort with different technologies is also invaluable as you will often utilize a range of technology tools including videoconferencing, accounting software, multi-line telephone systems, spreadsheet software, email, and medical software.
