  • All On-Call employees must submit availability for at least 24 hours per week that include the following:
    • At least two overnight (11:00pm-7:00am) shifts a month (one must be on a Friday or Saturday night)
    • At least two weekend day/evening (Saturday or Sunday) shifts per month.
    • At least three (3) of MHP designated holidays throughout the year. Time and a half will apply for these shifts.
    • Differentials apply for evenings (10%) and overnights (20%).

Must be 21 years old, have safe driving record, a current Colorado driver’s license

Purpose:

To respond to psychiatric crisis of community members, including adults, children, families, friends of families, and others experiencing mental health and substance abuse related crises occurring in Boulder and Broomfield Counties.

Job Summary:

Intervene in mental health crisis or emergency situations and arrive at an appropriate disposition to maintain mental health care in the least restrictive and appropriate setting. Use evidence based approach to evaluate people and facilitate the suitable disposition, coordinating with family, friends, interested individuals and agencies whenever available.

Essential Functions:

Intervention & Evaluation

  • Provides face-to-face interventions and assessment of current mental health status
  • Provides support and triage for clients and the community at large
  • Provides short-term face-to-face interventions to help stabilize people in crisis and prevent hospitalization when possible
  • Makes referrals for resources internally and externally.
  • Coordinates with appropriate partners to make sure the client gets the most appropriate level of service needed.
  • Provides mobile response to a variety of community settings as required, including agencies, shelters, upon law enforcement request, homes, etc.
  • Provides walk-in interventions and assessments for clients, self-referred and transported by law enforcement
  • Provides after-hours support and triage for clients and the community at large
  • Conducts mental status evaluations to determine what level of care is appropriate for people in distress.
  • Performs timely intakes and thorough assessments of client needs holistically in order to resolve the immediate crisis and enhance follow up for further stabilization
  • Addresses trauma as reported by the client and ensures that adequate time is spent with each client to ensure the accuracy of assessments
  • Creates working diagnosis using DSM-V
  • Verifies insurance for those in need of services
  • Meets defined individual and department goals, activity metrics and Key Performance Indicators
  • Promotes, supports and demonstrates MHP’s mission, vision and values through both behavior and job performance and adheres to policies, procedures, Compliance Plan and Standards of Conduct on a day to day basis
  • Effectively interacts and communicates with other MHP staff/clients/customers/partners/etc.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is required to perform other essential functions of the job
  • Other duties as assigned

Disposition & Referral

  • Creates appropriate dispositions in consultation with on-call psychiatrist, emergency room physicians and supervisor as needed
  • Coordinates hospital and Crisis Stabilization Unit admission process, when necessary, utilizing available resources, including updating and transferring legal documentation as required
  • Facilitates referrals to appropriate organizations as needed
  • Communicates and collaborates with multiple collateral agencies, schools, hospitals, family and friends of the client
  • Represents Community Crisis Connection (CCC) to other agencies and the public with appropriate professionalism

Documentation

  • Documents all phone and face-to face contacts according to CCC and MHP policy
  • Documentation must include a description of the crisis and/or why crisis intervention was necessary
  • Supplies documentation consistent with clinical and administrative policies and procedures related to the provision of services

Workflow Management and Crisis/CIS Training

  • Organizes shift workflow by triaging requests for emergency services on the basis of presumed severity of the situation
  • Trains and supervises interns and new employees in emergency and crisis policies and procedures

Other

  • Promotes, supports and demonstrates MHP’s mission, vision and values through both behavior and job performance and adheres to policies, procedures, Compliance Plan and Standards of Conduct on a day to day basis

Minimum qualifications

  • Previous experience in crisis work and/or substance abuse
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) desired
  • Meets the requirements of applicable federal, state and organizational background checks
  • Masters in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or related field plus 1 to 2 year internship and 0-1 year prior experience in a clinical setting required
  • Must be license-eligible (Licensed PhD or PsyD, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage/Family Therapist (LMFT)) or actively working toward attainment of required hours/supervision to obtain license in a reasonable timeframe following hire

  • Ability to quickly create working alliance with client
  • Ability to build professional, working relationships with both internal and external partners
  • Ability to make rapid assessments and multi-axial diagnoses through interactions with clients and collaterals
  • Ability to triage and prioritize clients according to work flow
  • Excellent communication and strong writing skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Intermediate computer skills including use of Microsoft Office products and the electronic health record and ability to learn new tools as needed
  • Ability to work occasional nights/weekends
  • Ability to work over shift as needed
  • Some knowledge of psychiatric medications
  • Knowledge of substance abuse, including symptoms of intoxication and withdrawal
  • Knowledge of community resources and ability to make appropriate referrals, required
  • Bicultural/Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

Working Environment

  • General office environment
  • Must be able to work in a shared office space with frequent interruptions
  • Regularly includes working with people in acute distress or crisis
  • Must be within 30 mins of Walk-In Clinic to be able to work mobile shifts. Mobile shifts respond in the community and in emergency rooms
  • May require travel to several MHP sites throughout Boulder and Broomfield counties to attend meetings
