Job Overview

The Role
We are looking for Texas licensed Pediatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners who want to build a new way of delivering high-quality, evidence-based mental health care because they are dissatisfied with the status quo. We want providers who are excited to work at an early-stage startup and impact the way we provide exceptional virtual mental healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based telepsychiatry care and medication management via the Little Otter platform to children ages 0-14 years old, parents, and families
  • Provide diagnostic assessment and pharmacologic treatment planning using validated measures and developmentally appropriate clinical interviewing with children and parents
  • Prescribe evidence-based pharmacologic treatments over a range of diagnoses, especially: Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Anxiety disorders, Depression, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), etc.
  • Engage with collateral informants/providers including educators, other professionals including physical, occupational, and speech therapists, and other family members
  • Communicate with families using the messaging feature of the Little Otter platform
  • Work as a member of a Little Otter collaborative care team including our clinical care lead who coordinates care and, if indicated, parenting specialists and therapists to conduct assessments, develop care plans, and provide personalized care to children ages 0 to 14 years old
  • Complete clinical documentation using the Little Otter platform for each patient including intake notes, progress notes, treatment plans
  • Participate in regular Little Otter collaborative care meetings
  • Be a passionate learner and creator and participate in continuing education, case conferences, peer supervision, and training in evidence-based practices, diversity, and inclusion, clinical skills, etc.
  • Meet regularly with the Little Otter leadership team to share experiences and insights, give feedback, and contribute to the development of Little Otter
  • Serve as an integral part of the development of strategies to transform the delivery of mental healthcare to children and families
  • Contribute to family-facing content (video, written, webinars) on child mental health, child development, family stress, parent mental health, specific challenges, and disorders

About You

  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP), Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) or Developmental-Behavioral Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with experience treating childhood psychiatric disorders (age 5-14)
  • Received degree from an accredited training program and board-certified
  • You must have an active North Carolina state license with the ability to prescribe controlled substances and non-controlled substances. It is a bonus if you have other state licenses or are willing to obtain them as we are expanding to be nationally available. We are currently also active in Florida, Colorado, Texas, California, and New York with plans to expand over the next year
  • 3+ years of direct clinical experience providing medication management to children with demonstrated expertise in treating common mental health disorders in children ages 5-14 through evidence-based practices
  • Experience and belief in providing measurement-based care
  • Knowledge of techniques such as motivational interviewing, SMART goal setting, assessing client readiness to change
  • Experience providing interdisciplinary collaborative care and working with children, parents, and other providers and educators
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) and an ability to share feedback across teams in a collaborative and solution-oriented way
  • Comfortable with technology and interested in incorporating technology solutions into clinic care
  • Experience with electronic medical records
  • Excited to collaborate with top childhood mental health experts, software engineers, and designers to implement outstanding care models
  • Loves working with children and families and is passionate about mental health
  • The drive to be part of building something new and at the same time comfortable with the change and evolution of a start-up

Bonus Skills

  • Experience, interest in, and knowledge about clinical research and evidence-based child mental health care
  • Professionally bilingual in English and Spanish and/or other languages
  • Licensed in multiple states
