Job Overview

Salary Details: 4-Week, Summer Residential Assignment at Berry College in Rome, GA (on-campus housing and dining plan are also provided to instructors) June 19, 2022 – July 16, 2022. Stipend: $5,000.

Duties & Responsibilities: The Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) strives to advance student achievement by funding innovative programs focused on teacher and leader induction and development, applied learning, blended learning and innovative resource management. In addition, GOSA provides policy support to the Governor and, ultimately, to the citizens of Georgia through:

  • An education report card indicating the effectiveness of Georgia’s P-20 education institutions;
  • Research initiatives on education programs in Georgia and corresponding findings to inform policy, budget, and legislative efforts;
  • Thorough analysis and straightforward communication of education data to stakeholders;
  • Academic program audits;
  • Digital learning initiatives;

Faculty will provide instruction in both a “major” academic or artistic discipline for six days per week; and will provide instruction in an elective area of study. Faculty members are required to attend paid staff orientation and training sessions in advance of the summer program, work collaboratively with discipline specific department staff on an ongoing basis; participate in outside-of-class activities when directed; and other assigned tasks related to the Governor’s Honors Program. A minimum of one training session will be held on Friday evening, March 11, 2022 (new faculty) and Saturday, March 12, 2022 (full faculty) at Berry College. Faculty must prepare unit plans and/or a syllabus and course overviews that reflect a rigorous and engaging curriculum. Faculty must be able to maintain accurate records of attendance.

Minimum Training & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree or higher with a minimum of (3) three years successful counseling experience in either a clinical or secondary school level. Experience working with gifted education classes OR comparable experience with high school age students in a private or out of school environment (e.g., private practice) within the applicant’s field of expertise.

Position Specific Qualifications:
The Counselor position is responsible for providing counseling and support services for gifted and talented high school students who are participants in the Governor’s Honors Program. The Counselor position provides initial assessments, as well as individual and group counseling as needed by the program. The Counselor may provide crisis intervention and on-call coverage as needed by the program. The successful candidate must have either a Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; a Master’s degree in human services field from an accredited college or university and three year directly related experience; or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and five years directly related experience.*

  • Directly related experience is defined as experience in the areas of case management, assessment and referral, supportive counseling, intervention, clinical psycho-social therapy and treatment planning.

  • Three (3) or more years of experience successfully facilitating instruction, counseling, or school support services in a secondary or post-secondary environment.

  • Significant experience working with gifted secondary learners
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Ability to participate in coaching and professional growth opportunities
