Job Overview

This opportunity is eligible for a $1000 sign-on bonus if you are hired at a 0.5 FTE or higher!

We have full time and part time openings- both are day/evening shift rotations or straight nights.

PrairieCare offers a competitive benefits package and starting salary in the range of $18.00-$22 per hour depending on education, experience and qualifications.

As an Inpatient Psychiatric Technician, you will:

  • Assist in the observation, planning, intervention and evaluation of care to patients within assigned area
  • Ensure safety of patients and staff through constant monitoring of the milieu for potential safety hazards, reporting issues appropriately
  • Conduct metal detection and belongings searches
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and create an environment that provides the best care and patient experience
  • Utilize verbal de-escalation skills as needed
  • Facilitate goal/activity groups
  • Keep the unit organized by notifying correct individual when supplies are low
  • Sanitize program utensils, toys and other containers/materials as needed

*must be able to work day/evening and every other weekend/holiday*

Requirements

  • High school graduate required, Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Knowledge of mental health gained through a minimum of 1 year experience through academic college or university education in behavioral sciences and/or by equivalent study and/or experience required
  • 6 months experience in a mental health setting with pediatric population preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate and make safe judgement calls in stressful situations
  • Ability to multi-task, use time efficiently and prioritize appropriately
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner in both verbal and written format and model a positive teamwork attitude
  • Ability to remain open to other’s ideas and exhibit willingness to try new things
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly as part of a team to handle volatile and potentially emergency situations
  • Ability to intervene in pre-crisis situations by utilizing de-escalation techniques, limit setting and the use of least restrictive interventions
  • Knowledgeable of the Joint Commission standards for restrain/seclusion use
  • Display a professional attitude in all aspects of performance
  • Ability to smoothly and rapidly shift between dissimilar tasks
  • Ability to make effective decisions while in stressful situations and circumstances
  • Must have basic computer skills using Microsoft Office products and EHR
