Job Overview

The primary focus of this position is to provide a spectrum of counseling and outreach services to the Azusa Pacific University community.

Required Education

  • Master’s degree in clinical or counseling psychology or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences or Board of Psychology.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the spiritual mission of Azusa Pacific University.

Required Experience

  • Three years of counseling experience, university setting preferred. Applicant should be a generalist with experience in at least some of the following: addiction and substance abuse; brief therapy; crisis management and consultation; providing counseling, prevention, and outreach services to diverse populations; psychological assessment; sexual and gender issues; spiritual issues. Virtual teletherapy experience preferred.
  • California license preferred.

Primary Duties

  • Provides individual, couples, and group counseling for a culturally diverse student population.
  • Provides crisis intervention and management.
  • Acts as an emotional wellness consultant for the university community.
  • Supports the university by attending various functions that are deemed appropriate for Counseling Center staff by the Director.
  • Performs other duties related to job as directed by the supervisor.

Skills

  • Knowledge of relevant ethical and legal parameters of professional practice.
  • Excellent communication skills, including strong command of grammar and writing skills.
  • Experience with electronic record-keeping programs (ie: Medicat), preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook desirable.
  • Able to work independently and with little supervision, be proactive and take initiative.
  • Actively seeks out opportunities for growth and professional development.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity and commitment to the unique needs of students experiencing mental health concerns.
  • Demonstrates respect, professionalism, and consideration when dealing with students, faculty and staff.
  • Is in agreement with the Christian purpose of APU, demonstrates a mature Christian faith, and is in agreement with the APU Positional Statements.

  • Ability to manage challenging situations including student and campus crises.

Physical Demands

  • The position may require sitting for extended periods of time. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force.

Visual Demands

  • Computer monitor and reading.

Environment

  • Pleasant office setting, comfortable temperature.

Technologies

  • Proficient in Google Apps., Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.

Compensation

  • Grade 12: $5,316-$6,911/monthly
  • Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
