Job Overview

QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of an accredited college or university. Licensed master’s degree in psychology, social work or a related field. Must have strong communication skills and relationships with a variety of social agencies. Three years’ experience working in a school setting or social services. Arizona Department of Education Social Worker Certificate required.

 


JOB DESCRIPTION
:
To provide a full range of services to help students and families to cope with personal and psychological issues that affect school performance, behavior, and socialization. As a key member of our support team, the candidate will partner with school administrators and teachers to develop and implement plans that provide specialized support for selected

students.

 


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide a developmental, preventative and/or crisis management approach to school social work so that identifying students who manifest overt behavioral problems are given the opportunity for development of positive feelings and attitudes toward self and others.
  • Initiate and implement individual and/or group counseling to identified students.
  • Provide classroom counseling and support when needed.
  • Responsible for specialized problem-orientation assessment, specialized project or case-oriented planning, specialized intervention, and evaluation of activities and interventions.
  • Convey to parents and staff information concerning specific student needs in physical, intellectual, social/emotional, and educational areas.
  • Implement social service support throughout the school and/or district that will impact student’s attendance, behavior and grades.
  • Assist students in increasing their self-esteem, communication skills, social interactions and conflict-resolution management.
  • Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive climate that encourages student responsibility through active reflective learning, whole person advocacy and other positive behavior intervention systems.
  • Work with students, staff, parents, and community for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems, resolving conflicts, referring to appropriate professionals, and enhancing student success.
  • Provide and/or assist in providing students, parents, and staff with programs and skills in decision-making, problem solving, and realistic goal-setting, utilizing such channels as study groups, newsletters, parent-teacher groups, and professional development.
  • Build partnerships with community agencies for the purpose of meeting student and family needs.
  • Work collaboratively with student support services and programs to align resources for maximum impact.
  • Facilitate positive, appropriate, and healthy connections between students and adults within the school setting and the community for the purpose of social and academic growth.
  • Establish a professional rapport with students.
  • Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.
  • Research, evaluate, and present best practices aligned with the current social/emotional learning curriculum for the purpose of promoting student engagement.
  • Make home visits, as needed, in consultation with the administration.
  • Maintain records of counseling and consulting contacts; provide quarterly reports.
  • Assist the staff and parents with the interpretation of evaluative data and other student record data.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
