Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is currently seeking an Inpatient Staff Psychiatrist for the Montford Unit in Lubbock, TX.

Background

TTUHSC Managed Care has a partnership with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to provide all medical healthcare, behavioral healthcare, dental, vision, and pharmacy services to incarcerated offenders in the Northern and Western Regions of the State of Texas. The John Montford Unit, located in Lubbock, TX is the regional medical center and psychiatric hospital for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). This unit specializes in housing offenders who require mental health and medical treatment. This unit has the capacity to house 1,047 male offenders. The facility has the capability to house 550 offenders in psychiatric care, 400 offenders in the Trusty Camp, 30 holding beds, 50 Ward beds, 44 Long-Term Care beds, and 4 Specialty Care beds.

The Montford Psychiatric Hospital consists of 10 pods, including: Crisis Management, Diagnostic and Evaluation, Aute Care/ Rapid Stabilization, Partial Remission, Chronic Care, Mood Disorder, Neurocognitive Disorder and Impulsive, Self-Injurious Behavior.

Job Summary

Diagnoses and treats patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. Provides professional services related to diagnosis and treatment of inmate/patients. Insures that appropriate mental health care is accessible and provided to the inmate population in a timely fashion, regardless or segregation status. Renders judgement regarding care provided to inmates assigned to the unit according to TTUHSC Correctional Health Services Policies and Procedures, TDCJ Policies and Procedures, and National Commission on Correctional Health Care Standards. Works under general direction of the Unit Medical Director, with wide latitude to exercise initiative and independent judgement.

Providers will see 14 patients per day, averaging 12 follow-ups and 2 evaluations daily. Patients are seen dependent on clinical needs, ranging from weekly to monthly, Patients are assigned to specialized treatment tracks with length of stay ranging from 1-6 months. Treatment Team meetings with Social Workers and Masters’ Level Clinicians occur twice weekly. Hospitalization and Medication hearings occur once weekly for one hour.
