Job Overview

  • Responsible for supervising Intake Team Members to help facilitate access to psychiatric and chemical dependency services for patients in hospital emergency departments and/or in acute care settings throughout Advocate Aurora Healthcare. May also assume responsibility for direct patient care as needed. Assist the Manager of Intake in communicating, coordinating, and ensuring policy and procedures are implemented and followed.
  • Provide work direction to team members with clear responsibility of coordination of resources to efficiently support procedures, day to day operations, and the smooth flow of patients through the department.
  • Monitors team member assignments, maintains staffing schedule, evaluates staffing levels and makes adjustments as necessary to maintain productivity level established in assigned area(s).
  • Serves as a resource to referral sources, physicians and other departments regarding support for admission decisions, utilization review, discharge planning, transferring patients, and problem solving in clinical situations.
  • Promotes an environment conducive to the delivery of quality patient care. Advocates for rights of patients and team members.
  • Promotes communication among patients, families and hospital departments, and medical staff to optimize the interdependence of all team members. Coordinates the needs of physicians and acts as liaison between medical staff and Intake team members by services as a problem solver and mediator.
  • Develops and maintains effective intra- and inter-departmental relationships. Facilitates positive communication with medical supply companies and their representatives.
  • Evaluates the quality of patient care provided in the specialty area through collaboration with unit and organization resource people. Ensures policies and procedures are in compliance with those of the medical center, the nursing department, and regulatory agencies.
  • In collaboration with departmental and organizational staff, develops department orientation
    Provides input regarding equipment/supply needs, renovations, and environmental issues in preparation of operating capital equipment budgets.
  • Responsible for shared leadership and it’s functions related to nursing evaluation, peer review, policy/procedures, and Standards of Nursing Practice. Scheduled Hours
    Business hours with call coverage

Licenses & Certifications

  • None Required.

Degrees

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, or Master’s Degree in Psychology, or Master’s Degree in Social Work.

Required Functional Experience

  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in in a clinical setting, including previous experience in the clinical assessment of psychiatric and chemical dependency disorders of all age populations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrates awareness in working with insurance companies and managed care review agencies. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the State of Wisconsin Mental Health, Emergency Detention, and Development Disabilities Code. Excellent interpersonal, communication, multi-tasking, and problem solving skills. Demonstrates the ability to effectively make critical, independent decisions and the ability to anticipate learning needs and take preventative action. Demonstrates human relation skills with the ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of team members and physicians. Must be comfortable working with computers and software.
