PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONThe Social Services Provider Academy (SSPA) is a Seattle Central College (SCC) career development program designed for housing and homeless social services entry-level and direct-service staff who are interested in advancing professionally in their field. The program offers higher education scholarship opportunities for a series of credit-earning stackable certificates which are transferrable to SCC two and four-year degrees. SSPA is a partnership of SCC and lead partner organizations, Catholic Community Services (CCS) and Plymouth Housing Group (PHG) and additional partner organizations.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
: The SSPA position supports a positive, aspirational and engaged program culture. The position is responsible for the assessment, intake and support of a caseload of up to 78 students per calendar year. Students are entry-level and direct services employees referred by King County social services agencies. Students may not be high school graduates, may have no college experience, may have a history of homelessness and may be challenged by financial insecurity.
The position proactively networks, communicates, collaborates and coordinates with multiple players including the SSPA Program Manager, various units of the college, including financial aid, administrators and instructors, partner social service organization staff and resource providers (SSPA team).
This position evaluates and monitors working student needs with the SSPA team and is responsible for thorough, timely case management to support student success.
This is a full-time position with CCS based at CCS and SCC.

Responsibilities:

Case Management

Provide accessible and responsive case management services to entry-level working students. Serve as liaison and first point of contact with the student, college and student-referring organization to positively address student barriers, challenges and needs to support school and work success.

  • Develop and maintain productive professional relationships and case management for a caseload of up to 78 students per calendar year.
  • Develop student-driven college, work and personal life balance success plans. Work closely with SCC administrators and instructors to monitor and assess individual student progress and provide effective triage, guidance and resources.
  • Communicate student progress with student-referring supervisors and approved student networks regarding challenges, barriers and achievement.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive, connected student cohorts to enhance student support of one another.
  • Collaborate with SCC administrators and instructors to produce cohort events and activities to inform and enhance the student college experience.
  • Initiate and maintain thorough program recordkeeping and student case notes. Participate in established data collection systems that meet SCC and partner organization standards for confidentiality and data completeness. Prepare reports.

 


Program Outreach and Coordination

Collaborate with SCC, SSPA Program Manager and partner organizations (SSPA team) on SSPA outreach and marketing. Develop and maintain program marketing, application and enrollment materials. Coordinate program outreach and student recruitment. Maintain student referral and application files and support student selection process

  • Initiate, respond and maintain thorough, collaborative communication with SCC and partner organizations from outreach and student referral through program acceptance and completion cycles.
  • Develop effective program marketing materials for distribution to all participating organizations.
  • Establish annual SSPA calendar and quarterly class information, schedules and resources.
  • Conduct positive program outreach with referring student organizations through in-person and electronic communication.
  • Coordinate student selection process with SSPA team. Develop and maintain selection process record keeping.
  • Evaluate and process application packets to send to SCC for registration and funding confirmation. Work with SCC on registration/enrollment barriers.

 


Program Enrollment and Financial Aid

Work with SCC to assess student needs. Initiate, engage, inform and positively assist students to navigate and meet deadlines for college enrollment, registration, program or class discontinuance and funding processes throughout SSPA participation.

  • Establish collaborative relationships with college administrators and student services to

assess individual student needs. Provide timely counsel and resources related to all aspects of application, enrollment, registration, discontinuance and financial aid.

  • Develop and maintain SSPA recordkeeping and participate in established data collection systems to ensure that all required student documentation is complete. Prepare reports as required.

 

General Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Maintain accurate record of hours worked and submit timesheets on schedule.
  • Participate in required trainings as scheduled.
  • Actively participate in staff and supervisory meetings as required.
  • Contribute to and support a positive, culturally aware, anti-racist work environment.
  • Contribute to a team-oriented, positive, collaborative SSPA work environment.
  • Participate in SCC and lead participating agency advocacy on behalf of the program and students served.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

JOB CONDITIONS:

This position may require the employee to work in or visit an environment where there may be exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious material. Other exposures could include cleaning supplies, chemicals involved in pest control, paint and other materials used in building maintenance. Working conditions may include interruptions, working alone, and interactions with mentally ill, intoxicated or angry persons.
