he MVHS Group at Leidos currently has an opening for a Special Needs Consultant to work in our Washington, D.C. area Call Center. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the Military OneSource mission. The Military OneSource Program provides 24/7 support services for military members and their families, similar to a commercial employee assistance program (EAP). This program provides a broad array of information, resources, education, referrals, and counseling to about 4.7 million participants which includes Service members, their families, and eligible civilians at locations worldwide. The Military OneSource program serves as a “one source” for resource and information encompassing a comprehensive support system.

Special needs consultants provide information and referrals on specialized DoD programs directly impacting military members and their family’s lives. Responsible for providing personalized, tailored assistance and referral services to program participants.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides subject matter expertise in disability law to assist military families in understanding the complex areas of educational law; medical entitlements, military health care system, and TRICARE; special needs trusts/estate planning; and legal issues involving individuals with special medical and educational needs.

  • Collects participant feedback, document and report on session metrics, outreach and participant engagement.

  • Records in the After-Action Report (AAR) for each case, the services provided, any follow-up activities performed or case closures.

  • Maintains a minimum of 12 professional development hours per calendar year on topics related to adults and children with special needs.

  • With participant approval, obtains, directly from the participant, feedback after the initial special needs consultation utilizing a Government-provided feedback instrument to ensure a consistent high level of quality.

  • Contributes to the development of evidence-based Specialty content for submission of government approval.

  • Identifies and connects individuals with special needs to available community resources, including healthcare services, therapy, support groups, and social activities.

  • Provides guidance, training, and information to individuals, families, and caregivers on how to navigate the challenges associated with special needs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited graduate program in behavioral or social science.

  • Possess subject matter expertise with both professional training and experience in disability law to assist military families in understanding the complex areas of educational law; medical entitlements, military health care system, and TRICARE; special needs trusts/estate planning; and legal issues involving individuals with special medical and educational needs.

  • Knowledgeable on the Exceptional Family Member Programs (EFMPs).

  • Maintains a minimum of 12 professional development hours per calendar year on topics related to adults and children with special needs.

  • Strong customer service skills, knowledge of call center operations, and knowledge and understanding of military lifestyle and culture.

  • Proven proficiency in Microsoft based tools including Word, Outlook, Excel; web-based research; electronic documentation systems.

  • U.S. citizen and ability to speak fluent English.

  • Military spouse or former Service member is required for some consultation programs.

  • Ability to pass a criminal history and fingerprint background checks, and credential review/verification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Veteran/military retiree, wounded warrior, and/or military spouse

  • Experience working with and/or for military communities

  • Employee assistance program (EAP) experience

  • Call center experience

  • Telehealth experience
