Job Description:
Hyde Park Schools seeks to hire a full-time Elementary School Counselor for students 4K-5th grade. Preferred candidates will have a passion for working with children in a collaborative community that encourages each child to meet his or her own potential. Qualified candidates will have a Masters Degree in Counseling or a related field, and either state issued School Counselors Certificate in the appropriate grade levels and/or licensure in the field of counseling or mental health. All Hyde Park faculty are expected to have a commitment to continued professional growth to meet the needs of the 21st century classroom through educational articles, research, and professional development opportunities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement comprehensive School Counseling program including classroom lessons, small group counseling, and individual counseling on an as needed basis
- Remain universally accessible and make an effort to know every student for whom they are responsible
- Consult and collaborate with teachers regarding the social, emotional, academic, and personal growth of students
- Collaborate and partner with parents regarding the social, emotional, academic, and personal growth of students
- Consult, facilitate, and maintain communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and relevant stakeholders on specific student and parent academic and educational matters
- Serve as an active member of the administrative leadership team, participating in leadership meetings and completing duties as assigned by administration
- Support teachers in the implementation of social-emotional learning tools, resources, and supports
- Engage students in school-wide campaigns such as Black History Month, Kindness Week, etc.
- Guide students in their social emotional development with a focus on developing self-management, self-awareness, responsible decision-making, relationship skills and social awareness
- Foster healthy parent communication through email correspondence and phone calls, classroom newsletters or webpage, and parent/teacher conferences
- Build strong working relationships with colleagues and administrators which include both constructive feedback and mentoring of others
- Attend weekly chapel service with students and be willing to engage in presenting occasionally
