ABOUT THE POSITION

 

The Mental Health Practitioner will report to a Children’s Mental Health Unit Supervisor who manages the day to day operations. Children’s Mental Health Services provide outpatient individual and family therapy as well as targeted case management, wraparound support and family partnership/mentoring to Marin County’s Medi-Cal children and families. This position assesses children and youth referred to Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) and develops diagnostic formulations and treatment plans and maintains ongoing, timely documentation for each client. This position is responsible for carrying a caseload of clients providing individual and family therapy, often at school sites or in the field as well as in the office. This position may also provide consultation to staff, interns and community groups when approved by a supervisor.

There is currently one (1) full-time position available in Youth and Family Services that will be filled as a Mental Health Practitioner or a Mental Health Practitioner, Licensed.

Health and Human Services has embraced a hybrid work schedule that considers that some duties of this position may be performed remotely and options to telework up to three days per week and work remaining days onsite are available; however, the successful candidate must be able to report to County facilities for meetings, work assignments, and/or disaster service work upon short notice, as needed and deemed appropriate. While onboarding and training, the successful candidate may be required to work primarily onsite before establishing a hybrid work schedule.

 

ABOUT YOU

 

Our Highly Qualified Candidate:

Our ideal candidate for this position will have knowledge of and experience with children and youth mental health assessment, implementing family therapy interventions and experience with high risk populations, including youth involved with juvenile probation, youth with suicidal ideation/behaviors, LGBTQ youth or others. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in current theory and evidenced based approaches in serving children and youth with serious emotional disturbance, significant trauma history and substance use issues. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and case management experience working with youth of color who present with multiple stressors and challenges including language barriers, trauma history, undocumented status, acculturation challenges, limited employment opportunities and limited resources. The ideal candidate will also possess the following skills and abilities: work effectively in an organizational setting; manage complex clinical issues; develop and implement program goals; exhibit effective written and verbal communication skills; and be a positive and constructive team member.

Typically, equivalent to either possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited institution in social work, psychiatric nursing, psychology, counseling or a closely related field, or possession of a Doctoral degree in clinical psychology or a closely related field, or completion of three years of graduate education including completion of the doctoral-qualifying comprehensive examinations and a university-approved clinical internship equal to two full-time academic quarters (900 hours).


Education:

Any combination of education that would provide the knowledge and skills listed. Typically, equivalent to either possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited institution in social work, psychiatric nursing, psychology, counseling or a closely related field, or possession of a Doctoral degree in clinical psychology or a closely related field, or completion of three years of graduate education including completion of the doctoral-qualifying comprehensive examinations and a university-approved clinical internship equal to two full-time academic quarters (900 hours).

Experience/License:
Mental Health Practitioner: Equivalent to one year of clinical mental health experience under qualified supervision in a mental health setting. This experience must have involved diagnostic assessment and the provision of therapy for children and their families and the primary client.

Must be eligible and sit for professional licensure as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage, Family and Child Counselor (MFT), Clinical Psychologist, Professional Clinical Counselor or Registered Nurse within timelines consistent with the California Welfare & Institutions Code. Failure to obtain licensure within the specified timelines will result in termination of employment.

Licensed Mental Health Practitioner: Equivalent to two years of clinical mental health experience under qualified supervision in a mental health setting. This experience must have involved diagnostic assessment and the provision of therapy for children and their families and the primary client.

Must be professionally licensed as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage, Family and Child Counselor (MFT), Clinical Psychologist, Professional Clinical Counselor or Registered Nurse in the State of California. Qualified non-California residents must obtain a California license within timelines consistent with the California Welfare & Institutions Code. Failure to obtain licensure within the specified timelines will result in termination of employment.

Disaster Service Workers:
 All County of Marin employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
