The Behavior Therapist works with consumers enrolled in Soul Dogs, Inc. In some instances, the Behavior Therapist will work with the consumer and dog as a team in meeting Soul Dog Inc.’s purpose to develop a collaborative experience between clinical therapy for individuals with developmental disabilities/intellectual disabilities/autism with co-existing psychiatric disorders and the service/assistance/therapy/emotional support dog industry. Animal involvement is determined on a case-by-case basis. Only therapists certified as AAT therapists may provide this service with certified dogs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide weekly behavior services (i.e., counseling, consultation, and assessment) to individuals on the DD/ID Waiver who also experience soul pain as a result of trauma, anxiety, and mental health issues.
- Provide services to clients and their families through various therapeutic modalities. Will provide documentation to clients and families.
- Provide counseling that utilizes dogs as co-therapists and/or as service/assistance/emotional support dogs assisting the individual in his/her day-to-day living upon request.
- Inputting client contact into a digitized system on a weekly basis and ensuring notes are up to date.
- Participating in ongoing training that is required for licensure (this is not included in the base pay).
- Attending mandatory group supervision provided by the Behavior Services Department (this is not included in base pay)
- Attending Service Plan meetings and Interdisciplinary meetings.
- Writing Incident Reports
- Utilizing ADP to track work hours. Work hours include: orientation training, client contacts (therapy visits, consultation and assessment work). Any work outside of this must be approved by the direct supervisor and clinical director. Therapists are only paid for billable work unless otherwise authorized.
- Utilizing Trello, Gmail, and Google Chats as they are the ways in which this agency communicates.
- Maintain regular contact with direct supervisor and clinical director to ensure the following: assessments and plans are written accurately and carried out, therapy approaches are meeting the needs of the clients, discussion of client/organization issues that may arise, and address any training concerns/questions.
REQUIREMENTS:
- MSW (LCSW supervision is provided upon request.)
- DORA registered
- Professional liability insurance
- Animal experience and/or willing to learn
- Clear Criminal Records Check
- Knowledge in trauma-informed care
- Knowledge and sensitivity to cultural differences
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Initiative and flexibility
- Knowledge of Mandatory Reporting Laws in Colorado
- Strong project/time management & organizational skills; detail oriented
- Supportive, kind, caring and willing to ensure environment is respectful and honest
