The Dauphin County Prison is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Behavioral Health Reentry Coordinator. Under the direction of the Department of Corrections, this position will have primary responsibility for coordinating all affected parties in the interface between the criminal justice system and persons with mental illness and/or co-occurring disorders that are incarcerated and coming up on release dates to be re-integrated back into the community. This person will collaborate with the Stepping Up Coordinator, Dauphin County Prison staff, Prime Care, Team Mental Ill Substance Abuse (MISA), probation/parole, community-based mental health services, drug and alcohol, the courts as appropriate, and/or other community providers to coordinate appropriate release plans and to prevent people with behavioral health needs from reincarceration as appropriate. This position will be employed by the Dauphin County Prison. The Behavioral Health Reentry Coordinator will be a paramount part of criminal justice components in reducing the number of individuals with behavioral health needs reentering the jail as appropriate. The individual in this position is responsible for but not limited to performing the following essential functions: assures effective communication among staff and agencies involved in jail reentry activities on a day-to-day basis; maintains current knowledge of best practices, research data and relevant developments in reentry programs and strategies, forensic treatment and strategies; supports the Stepping Up Coordinator in being a liaison for the coordination of cross-systems activities as needed; collaborates with the Stepping Up Coordinator involving reentry initiatives involving behavioral health; responsible for collection and data reporting for program components and behavioral health participants; assists in identifying individuals for Reentry services and Cross Systems Planning; meets and coordinates with defendants and other team members/providers as appropriate for engagement and case planning purposes.

He/she is also responsible for these additional key essential functions: assists in the development/tracking of treatment and court plans; makes appropriate referrals to other service agencies and support groups; assists in monitoring of released individuals who were reviewed and received reentry plan(s); maintains post discharge information when available on re-arrest and re-incarceration in addition to any other identified information; acts as a liaison with other counties as needed when individuals have cases in other counties as well as Dauphin County to make sure it would be alright to start case planning for their reentry; assists in other needs of reentry services/planning as needed; and performs all other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Education, Experience, and Training Requirements

 

  • Master’s degree in Human Service field (Psychology/Social Work, Counseling), Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree in one of the above fields with combination of field experience will be considered. Must pass a criminal background check and receive applicable child abuse clearances prior to employment and, after hiring, become CLEAN certified.
  • In addition to education, three years’ experience working in adult mental health service administration areas is required if candidate holds a master’s degree. If Bachelor’s, five years of work experience in adult mental health services is required. Experience in the Criminal Justice system is also preferred. Must possess knowledge in the Pennsylvania Crimes Code, Rules of Criminal Procedure, and the criminal justice community in the Central Pennsylvania area. Must possess interpersonal skills to interface with other members of the criminal justice community, behavioral health system and network of providers, and Dauphin County government.
