Responsibilities

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital DVA, ALC and CRC units the Recreation Therapy Associate is a member of the health care team, providing support to clients and families through the application of recreation intervention to support holistic functioning of clients. The Recreation Therapy Associate contributes to assessment, evidence-informed interventions, planning and evaluation of recreation therapy services. The Recreation Therapy Associate is responsible for the planning and delivery of recreation programs on an individual or group basis to patients on the medical and transitional care units.. As needed, the candidate may also support delivery of other recreation programs on occasion on other units or in the community.. Recreation Therapy Associates provide interventions to groups or individuals in inpatient, outpatient or community settings, related to the client’s leisure needs and overall plan of care. Recreation therapy associates practice in adherence to practice standards and scope of employment.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited educational institution or a diploma
  • BLS – C
  • Experience working with individuals with physical/cognitive disabilities
  • Ability to work effectively within a team or other healthcare professionals
  • Ability to assist in the plan, develop, implement and evaluation of Recreation programs
  • Effective listening and communication skills; ability to motivate patients/veterans
  • Adaptability/Flexibility: changing and adapting skills to changing patient populations and/or worksites
  • Ability to work independently, without direct supervision
  • Ability to understand medical terminology used in a clinical area, and use within the documentation
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work

  • Short assignment, Part-time (50%) position; 37.5 hours bi-weekly
  • Shifts include evenings, weekends and Holidays
  • Some travel will be required

 


Salary Information

$22.06 – $25.07/hourly
