  4. Apply for LPC certifications – After gaining 1,500 – 3,000 hours of related work experience, you can apply to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. Other types of counseling certifications that are available include:

  • Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC) 
  • Master Addictions Counselor (MAC) 
  • National Certified School Counselor (NCSC)

For this role, you will need a Master’s degree and one year of related experience.  
  • Mental Health Associate – In this position, you will work under the guidance of a licensed professional to aid adults through their mental health recovery. This is a good opportunity for entry-level counselors to gain experience treating adults and specialize in a specific area. To qualify, you will need a Master’s degree and current BBS associate licensure.
